I am a mixed media artist residing in NS, Canada. I originally grew up in the province of NL, but came to the mainland for my studies – and have remained here ever since!
Growing up right next to the water in a very small community, there wasn’t much else to do except be outside around nature. This wasn’t necessarily a bad thing though, as nature always inspired me. I spent hours sketching wildlife and studying photos of animals in books. I come from a very artistic family, so my creativity was fueled with lots of fun crafts and access to paints and clays. I sketched and used colored pencils for the first few years. Then when I reached 10 I got my first acrylic paint kit, followed by my first oil paints when I turned 12. Switching from acrylic to oil was the most difficult, but I ended up loving oil even more.
In high school I got to get into pastels and charcoals. I also got to try watercolor for the first time. In my later school years I got into digital art and it became my focus at the time, it being such a different medium I got fully engrossed. I worked with clay for fun as well.
After graduating I went into engineering since I was good at math. The realization that this career wasn’t for me didn’t take long to hit, as I often spent all my free time making artwork between my studies. So I went back to focusing on what I loved most, and decided to become a professional self taught artist as a career- terrifying!
